KB0055: Why do you use jargon such as documents, sections, configurations, and so on?

Without specific terminology, it would be even more confusing to describe and differentiate the various concepts you need to use Jutoh effectively. We think you'll master them quickly though!

Here's a quick reminder of some of the terminology:

Document:

A generic term for the units that make up a Jutoh project. A document might be a book section, an embedded font, a media file, and so on. Mostly, you will deal with book section documents, usually one per chapter.

Book section document:

A document representing a book chapter, or table of contents, or title page, or other component of a book.

Configuration:

A collection of options with settings that are appropriate to a particular format, or distributor. When you compile a Jutoh project to an ebook, a configuration is used to determine how this is done. You can create as many configurations as you like so that you can alter the way the ebook is formatted, and even what content is put in the book, without having to edit the book each time. The configuration is one of the most powerful and flexible aspects of Jutoh.

Project:

A Jutoh project contains all the documents and resources that are needed to generate a number of different kinds of ebook. It uses the file extension .jutoh.

Project properties:

All the things you can edit about a project, except the actual content. Properties includes the metadata, cover, configurations, style sheets, miscellaneous options. Use the Edit button on the main toolbar or Book | Project Properties to edit them.

Metadata:

This is the basic information about your book, such as the title, author, publisher, and so on. You edit them via the Project Properties.
