KB0061: How do I make Jutoh output repeated images as a single image file?

See also: Why are some images in my book duplicated?

You may have pictures in your book that are repeated, for example decorative elements. By default, the same image is output as a separate file every time it is encountered, thereby increasing the book file size unnecessarily.

To change this, you need to do two things.

  1. Edit the image properties by clicking on the image, and type an image name that is the same for all identical images. You may find it easier to edit all your images by showing them in the Inspector, in the Formatting Palette: choose Images and make sure All Documents is checked in the options (via '...').

  2. Edit your configuration (by clicking Edit next to the selected configuration in the Jutoh Control Panel) and check the option Use specified image file names. You can find the option by typing in the first few letters of the option name in the search field at the bottom of the configuration panel, or simply by clicking on Use specified image file names in this help screen.

Now compile, and you should find that the generated book file size shrinks.

Keywords: repeated, duplicate, identical, multiple instances, same picture, reuse, reusing, large file size
