How can I avoid having a large table of contents at the front of the book?

By default, Jutoh generates a table of contents from the document titles and puts it at the front of the book, after the cover. This simple TOC is generated at compile time and is not shown in the project.

However, you may not want the table of contents to be the first thing the reader sees after the cover, and if it's a large TOC, having to scroll through several pages to start reading is not ideal.

To have more control of your TOC, create an advanced TOC using the menu command Format | Book | Build Table of Contents. This creates a new section in your project, extracting headings from the book to create a hierarchy (or using document titles if it can't find headings). You can then move this section to wherever you want in the project by dragging it in the project organizer.

Or, you can switch off the TOC altogether by editing your configuration(s) and clearing the option Generate table of contents, but this is not recommended as it will cause standard ebook reader TOC buttons to be disabled which may give the impression of a broken book.
