KB0172: Why is paragraph spacing not always preserved from the original Word file?

Occasionally, when importing from a DOCX file, the spacing between paragraphs will be wrong - usually larger than the original.

Word has the ability to vary paragraph spacing depending on the proximity of paragraphs with particular styles (using the Word option 'Don't add spacing between paragraphs of the same style'). Jutoh does not have an equivalent, so any spacing specified in the original document is always applied.

If paragraphs have direct formatting (for example indicated by a style such as Normal + Spacing After), then remove the direct formatting by applying a named style or using More/Clear Direct Formatting in the Styles tab of the Formatting Palette. If necessary, edit any named styles to set the paragraph spacing to required value. For more on editing styles, see All about style sheets in the Jutoh manual.
