KB0191: What word processors are compatible with Jutoh?

If you wish to generate a PDF from your Jutoh project (via the OpenDocument configuration), the best word processor to use is LibreOffice since it has maximum ODT compatibility. Although you can open an ODT file in recent versions of Microsoft Word, and other word processors, none has the level of compatibility of LibreOffice, and PDF generation in particular can be poor from Word (broken links and missing headers and footers).

If you need to create a DOCX file, you can generate an ODT via the OpenDocument or Smashwords configuration, open it in LibreOffice, and save it as DOCX. OpenOffice doesn't have all the export options of LibreOffice, and has slightly poorer header and footer handling, but it's a good second choice.

If you have a DOCX file that you need to import into Jutoh, you can import it directly. If you only have a DOC file, you can use LibreOffice to convert it to a DOCX or ODT file first.

If you have an Apple Pages file, you can save it as DOCX from Pages, but it's best to open it and save it again in LibreOffice before importing into Jutoh, to remove some poor formatting that will confuse Jutoh.

If you are saving an ODT from Google Docs, open and save it in LibreOffice before importing it into Jutoh, since Google Docs writes extremely poor and verbose ODT.

If you need to copy and paste a chunk of formatted text to Jutoh, do it from LibreOffice since Jutoh can preserve formatting, unlike when pasting from a Word document.

Note that when exporting to ODT, if you intend to open it in LibreOffice, clear the option Add blank paragraphs for Word. If you intend to open it directly in Word, check this option. This is because Word requires blank paragraphs before a page break or the result will be poor justification in the last paragraph.
