KB0203: Why do I get formatting problems on Kindle for iOS?

If you are finding that formatting has unexpected problems on Kindle for iOS (only) such as missing character portions, check these are all true:

  1. You are using the Kindle configuration, not Epub, to ensure Kindle optimization is being performed.

  2. You are using the recommended way to upload and preview Kindle books to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, as documented in How can I test my Epub and Kindle books? That is, create a .mobi file, launch it in Kindle Previewer, convert to AZK by selecting Devices | Kindle for iOS, and then use iTunes and a USB cable to transfer it to the device. Just mailing it or other method will not work.

  3. You avoid unnecessary formatting such as line spacing and right margins. The less formatting you specify, the better the device defaults will work.
