If automatic region magnification is on (the default), hyperlinks in text boxes won't work because clicks or taps are redirected to region magnification functionality. Clearing the configuration option Auto region magnification and recompiling fixes the problem.
If you do need magnified regions for most of your book, keep Auto region magnification checked but disable the region for specific objects containing URLs, such as your contents text box. Use the Region tab in the text object properties dialog and clear Inherit properties and Magnify object.
