KB0182: Why are blank paragraphs and non-breaking spaces not showing in Adobe Digital Editions?

If you are using embedded fonts, and blank paragraphs using a paragraph style with no first-line indent, Adobe Digital Editions and other e-readers that use the same code base may not display the blank paragraphs. This problem does not occur in AZARDI or Kindle.

Spacing is also an issue if you are using non-breaking spaces, or the configuration option Orphan control for single-letter words which adds non-breaking spaces after single letters for languages such as Polish. With font embedding on, these spaces may not appear and the word can run into the next word, in ADE and derived e-readers.

The cause appears to be redefining embedded fonts as commonly-used font names, for example giving an embedded font the name "Times New Roman" when it is in fact a quite different font.

To fix it, rename your embedded fonts to names that reflect name of the actual embedded font. Use Font substitutions if you want Jutoh to use different font names than the ones specified in the book content.
