KB0264: Why are headings smaller than normal text when viewing an Epub?

When viewing your Epub book with a viewer such as Adobe Digital Editions, you might find that headings are the same size or smaller than the rest of the text, even though you specified a larger size.

This is probably because you compiled the Epub with Kindle optimizations. This can mess up relative sizing because the file has style information for both KF7 and KF8 styles, and the Epub reader is defaulting to the KF7 styles.

Jutoh will warn you if you are using Launch to view an Epub that has been compiled with a configuration that is also used for generating Kindle files.

How to fix it

Edit your configurations and ensure that in the Epub configuration, only Generate Epub is checked and not Generate Kindle. In your Kindle configuration, ensure that only Generate Kindle is checked, and not Generate Epub. Select your Epub configuration, click Compile, then click Launch. You should find that headings are now behaving themselves.
