KB0266: Why does my embedded font not show in the Jutoh editor?

You may find that embedding your font works perfectly well in Epub or Kindle viewers, but the font doesn't actually show as expected in the Jutoh editor, defaulting to a different font.

The problem is that the font name used in your paragraph or character style is not a font that is currently installed on your system. If you did install it in your operating system, but haven't restarted Jutoh, you could try restarting Jutoh. But for the font to appear, it needs to be the exact name that's installed in your operating system.

For example, if the family name of your embedded font is set to "MyFancyFont" in your embedded font document and also in your content, but the font as installed in your operating system is "Fancy Font", then it won't be shown in the editor, and Jutoh will issue a warning. You can check the font names available in a font dialog to verify that as far as Jutoh is concerned, that particular font doesn't exist in the operating system.

This is harmless, in the sense that it's an inconvenience rather than something that will affect your book. But to fix it, you could change the font family name used in your project content and styles to match a name you see in the list of fonts available to you in a font dialog. Then you can either change the embedded font family name to match, or use the configuration option Font substitutions to map from the name used in the content to the actual embedded font name, using a value such as:

Fancy Font:MyFancyFont

Note for Mac users: sometimes fonts that don't show up in the Jutoh editor in the 32-bit version of Jutoh, do show up using the 64-bit version. So if you expect fonts to show which don't, you could try switching to the 64-bit version.

Note for Windows users: a user has reported that the warning message can be shown in Jutoh even if the names are correct; but the problem goes away (i.e. the editor font is recognised by Jutoh) if the font has its embedding rights enabled using a font editor, and then the font is imported back into Jutoh as an embedded font document and also installed again as a Windows font. You will also need to restart Jutoh. This has not yet been reproduced or verified by us.
