KB0283: Why does the top of a page get chopped off when navigating on Kindle?

Clicking on a link in a Kindle book appears to go to the wrong location

You may notice that when navigating from a link or from the logical contents on Kindle hardware or app, the text above the link target is not shown, and you cannot see it without navigating backward or forward in the book.

This could happen, for example, when you have used a heading style within the title page, but not as the first paragraph, and so the link from the contents to that point in the title page cuts off some of the text.

This behaviour is a Kindle quirk and doesn't happen in other viewers. To avoid it, make sure that the first linked bookmark in a page is at the top, so at least one link from the contents will view the page properly.

From version 2.63, Jutoh will do this automatically when creating a table of contents via the table of contents wizard. This is controlled by the Optimize links checkbox in the TOC wizard or in the TOC options available via Project Properties/Contents/Options. When this is checked (the default), Jutoh will look at the first TOC entry for each chapter. If it isn't at the top of the page, Jutoh will use or insert a bookmark at the top of the page and link the first entry to this bookmark instead of the heading.
