KB0298: Why are my headings joined up with subheadings in the table of contents?

When building an advanced table of contents using Format | Book | Build Table of Contents, Jutoh can find headings that are spread over two consecutive paragraphs, and join them up with a colon separating them.

For example, if you have a heading "CHAPTER 1" using the style Heading 1, followed immediately by "INTRODUCTION" using the style Heading 1 Subheading, Jutoh will make the heading "CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION".

You can tell Jutoh to do this by typing a subheading style into the 2nd field in the TOC wizard. However, users occasionally misinterpret the 2nd field and fill it with, for example, Heading 2. Jutoh will then dutifully find a heading with this style and join it up with the main heading text.

In short, don't fill the 2nd field unless you're sure you want to join headings together. To determine what headings are used at each level of the TOC, change the Editing level field and choose a style to search for, for that level.
