KB0280: Can Jutoh show a detailed outline for navigation purposes?

In the project organizer on the left of the Jutoh window, you can see the sections (chapters) in a project, and click to open and edit them. But this outline only shows the overall section headings, and not subsections as shown by word processors such as Microsoft Word.

The Inspector tab in the Formatting Palette lets you show all headings and subheadings, and navigate to them with a click. Click on Inspector, and then choose Outline. Click the menu button (...) in the Inspector, and ensure that All Documents is checked.

Jutoh will find all headings as defined in the settings for the table of contents (edited via Format | Book | Build Table of Contents or via Project Properties/Indexes/Contents/Edit). If headings cannot be found using this method, for example because you didn't set up an advanced table of contents and you used different headings styles from the defaults, it will use the outline style as defined in Project Properties/Fields & Numbering/Edit Outline Style to find matching headings. Failing that, Jutoh will look for headings whose styles have an outline level.

If you wish, you can drag the Inspector tab to the Organizer's group of tabs, so that you can continue viewing the tabs in the Formatting Palette. This arrangement won't be restored when you restart Jutoh.

Changing the way Jutoh searches for heading styles

If Jutoh is not finding your headings correctly, you can edit the table of contents options even if you are not using an advanced table of contents. Click on Edit in the toolbar and then Indexes. Click on the Edit Properties button (the third icon on the top of the Contents panel), and for each level (Editing level), select or type the appropriate heading style for Jutoh to find.

Add an asterisk (*) to the pattern to include automatic styles based on the named style. To search for multiple heading styles for a given level, add multiple patterns separated by a pipe character (|).
