KB0292: How can I add versioning to my Apple Books Epub?

To add a version number to your Epub before uploading to iTunes, edit your Epub configuration and set the following options:

  1. Set Epub version to 3 (only Epub 3 files can be versioned).

  2. Find the option Epub package prefix and click on the drop-down control button, selecting the choice that begins "ibooks:" (the full value is "ibooks: http://vocabulary.itunes.apple.com/rdf/ibooks/vocabulary-extensions-1.0/").

  3. Find the option Extra metadata and set the value to <meta property="ibooks:version">1.2.3</meta> (substituting the version you want to use).

  4. Close the project properties with OK.

  5. Now when you compile and use Book | Examine to view the .opf file within the Epub, you'll see the extra metadata.
